Practice area flying
DMW > DMW
1.1 hours
May 20, 2003

Arrived at the FBO today and talked with my instructor about the motion sickness issues from last time. We decided we were going to do those steep turns again this time but I decided not to when we were up in the air. Just didn't feel right after a few Vy climbs and glides, and turns. Maybe next time. I did take a few Ginger capsules before the flight but that didn't work like I thought it would.

There was a nice crosswind so my instructor took off and landed today with me on the controls with him. I feel comfortable with the crabbing necessary to stay on centerline. I am itching to try this myself.

We got to the practice area and it was time to practice Vy climbs with and without turns and more gliding. He covered the airspeed indicator and I had to keep airspeed while climbing which was not hard. He then covered the altimeter, and I had to maintain altitude which was not difficult.

We dialed in the EMI VOR and followed a course TO the station. VOR use seems to be easy as I've done this many times in the simulator. We'll see how it goes in the air.

I need to get in the habit of using the following radio frequencies:
Com1 - 122.7 Carroll Co. Unicom - 125.52 Potomac App
Com2 - 121.25 Carroll Co. AWOS - 122.0 EFAS
Nav1 - 117.9 EMI 357 - 115.1 BAL
Nav2 - 119.0 FDK 064 - 113.5 AML
