Clutch repair Sept 25, 2002
My 1997 C5 was experiencing hard shifts and an intermittent friction point when releasing the clutch. Turns out that the slave was leaking. Here are some pitures. Corvette Speciaties of Marlyand located in Eldersburg, did the job.
Here's the leaking slave cylinder.
Here's the clutch disc, notice the rivet holes are filled with dried sludge from the fluid.
Here's the flywheel. Notice the inner rim of sludge where the disc comes in contact with the flywheel.
Here's the pressure plate - no noticable problems.
A view from underneath the C5, showing the torque tube running forward to the engine. It connects to the clutch inside the bellhousing.
Another view facing the front of the C5, looking up. The thing with the orange sticker is the transmission. Behind that is the differential with CV joints extending from both sides to the axles. Also notice the 2 gas tanks on either side of the transmission with their sending units at the rear/bottom of the tank.
Here's the view from back to front. Removal of the suspension is required to drop the torque tube, tranny and rear as an assembly. The shiny "box" hanging behind the rear is the traction control device.
Another view of the rear from the right side.
Another rear view.
A view fron the front passenger side, you can see the engine's oil pan supported.
